Principal Investigator
Eric Brown Labs, LLC is an independent research organization with a single member. Eric Brown graduated with a B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College in 2002. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2007 for his work in turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection with Guenter Ahlers. He spent time as a Postdoctoral Scholar in The James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago working with Heinrich Jaeger, and was an assistant professor at the University of California, Merced, and Yale University. He teaches physics and engineering part time.
Research
My current scientific research is focused in the following areas:
1. Development of low-dimensional models for large-scale coherent structures in turbulence such as convection rolls. This may be used to efficiently solve a wide variety of problems with applications ranging from climate and weather to heating and cooling systems.
2. Shear thickening and the impact response of suspensions. This may lead to design of new materials and configurations for impact protection applications.
